Baptism
Baptism is a historic and significant practice in the Christian faith. At The Way, we baptize those who have personally decided to follow Jesus and are ready to publicly declare their faith. We practice baptism by full immersion in water as a joyful, public celebration with our church community. If you have put your trust in Jesus, baptism is a good next step.
What is Baptism?
Baptism is both a public declaration of faith and a sacred sign of God’s grace. In baptism, we are visibly united with Jesus in His death, burial, and resurrection, declaring that our old life has died and our new life is now hidden with Him. It is not only our statement of allegiance to Christ, but God’s visible representation of His promise—to forgive our sins, to cleanse us, and to make us His own. As we enter the water and rise again, baptism proclaims the reality at the heart of the Gospel: that we belong to Jesus, and that through Him, we have been made new.
Scripture says, “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death… that we too may live a new life” (Romans 6:3–5). When a person goes under the water, it symbolizes dying to their old way of life. When they rise out of the water, it symbolizes resurrection into a new life—cleansed from sin and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
Baptism does not save us; it declares that we have been saved by grace. It is a decisive, embodied way of saying: I belong to Jesus.
Who Should Be Baptized?
At The Way, baptism is for those who:
Have personally placed their trust in Jesus
Are growing in their understanding of the Gospel
Are consciously choosing to follow Jesus
Are ready to publicly declare their faith
Are part of The Way Church community
Because baptism is not only an individual act but also a declaration of belonging to the family of God, we baptize those who are part of our church community. Our desire is not simply to perform the outward act, but to walk alongside people as they take this step—to know them, care for them, and support them in their ongoing life with Jesus. Baptism is a key step in the life of discipleship within a spiritual family, and we are committed to being that family.
If you were baptized as an infant and are now personally choosing to follow Jesus, we would love to talk with you about what baptism means for you at this stage of your journey.
